Blood-Orange Margarita recipe

The blood orange, with its sweet, deep red colored flesh, was most likely the result of a mutation that occurred in 17th century Sicily. Today blood oranges are common in Mediterranean cuisine.

In most varieties of blood oranges even the pulp and skin are slightly less sweet and more bitter than other orange varieties.

4 oz thawed The Perfect Puree of Napa Valley® Scarlet Orange concentrate
8 oz premium 1800® Tequila
7 oz triple sec
6 oz sweet and sour mix
3 tbsp granulated sugar

Make 4-oz of blood orange simple syrup by combining the sugar and blood orange juice in a small sauce pan; simmer over low heat until thick and syrupy. Allow to cool.

Add the above made syrup, tequila, triple sec and sour mix to a pitcher and stir. Pour 6-oz amounts into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes and shake well. Pour each amount over ice in a margarita glass; garnish as desired, and serve.
