I love matinies but I'm tired of the stong vodka taste, this recipe is good, it's strong enough, but you don't feel the vodka, it's just sweet enough and it goes down smoothly. It's my favorite.

I guess it's okay, but with Chambord and pineapple juice, I expected something much sweeter. Somehow professinal bartenders make it much better.

I prefer to make mine;

1oz Vanilla Vodka
1/2oz Chambord
1/2oz Cointreau
1/2oz Pineapple Juice
1/2oz Cranberry Juice
Twist of Lime

Poor each into a boston glass, shake and strain into a large cocktail or margarita glass. Twist and serve.
Vodka... bah!

Eh. Martinis aren't made with Vodka. It's a shame that everyone does them that way. :/

Make this with gin, like a real martini should be, and you'll have a much gentler flavor that really stands out better.

I find that it is better to take the vodka and pineapple juice with just a splash of Grand Marnier and shake into a chilled martini glass. Then, take the 1/2 oz of Chambord and gently pour along the side of the glass to create a layered effect. Because of its density, Chambord naturally settles on the bottom. Garnish with a flag (orange and cherry) and you are good to go!!

For those not fond of vodka - substitute with coconut rum.

It tastes better if you use canned pineapple juice, not fresh. Never ever stick a straw in or on the martini glass.

Lillet

Some traditional-based French martini drinkers may expect Lillet instead of Chambord...keep this in mind when taking the order from older and/or European customers

But this recipe isn't very good! I've had to make it a few times adding more chambord ... I guess its a matter of preference....

Try making it with Chambord, Grand Marnier, Pineapple Juice, and a splash of club soda/seltzer. Not a very alcoholic drink, but it is delicious and our customers love it.

I always use Raspberry vodka and canned pineapple.

I had this drink at a local restaurant and they also added champagne in addition to all of the ingredients mentioned above. It was excellent.

Gay martini

My boyfriend orders french martinis when we go out now and doesn't care that people call him gay! We love these they are delicious, i know people who arent so keen on the raspberry liquer so grand marnier will be the next stop. Maybe the variation and the fact it wont be pink will mean people will stop calling my boyfriend gay.

The Perfect French Martini

posted by Kimberly @ 04:50PM, 5/10/07

The key to making this a perfect martini is using vanilla vodka. It makes it even smoother and tastier. Want to take it even one more step up? Add 1/4 oz dash of contreau. I am going to go make one...now.

I agree with LAM it is better to add the Chambord after all the other ingredients are shaken. I can't imagine substiuting any other Raspberry liquer for Chambord. This drink is good however it is so... strong. I think the Grand Marnier is what did it.

It always looks better if you mix all ingredients except for the chambord. Put the chambord in the bottom of the glass and pour the mixture on top... but i do agree with a previous comment... vanilla vodka is better in it.
French Rasberry Martini

Every one of these martinis are superb !!! But if you like Rasberry, try making your martinis with a raspberry vodka, Chambord, Grand Marnier, pineapple and cranberry juice ! Delicious !!

Glad to see someone else substitutes coconut rum for the vodka, that with Chambord and pineapple juice is the best drink, even if it does take time to explain to the servers in the restaurants.
Bah!

posted by Stan @ 08:48PM, 8/24/07

I perfer the french Martini made with Vodka and Lillet wine instead with an orange peel for garnish.

Just my opinion, but adding Grand Marnier, Cointreau & other sweet flavors takes away from the "original" martini you're supposed to be drinking.

Like these people (philly) who order an apple Martini and think they're drinking a real martini...

posted by Violet Moon @ 01:43PM, 10/04/07

I had my first French Martini at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. I've been in love ever since. I have ordered at other bars and unfortunately most bartenders put in too much Chambord. I prefer balance, I like to taste the Vodka too not just the sweetness of the pineapple juice and Chambord. A chilled glass is a must, I keep my martini glasses in the freezer ready to go! Good Vodka is also a must - Pravda, Level 1, Chopin - my favorites.
French martini with cream

posted by jasmin @ 01:44PM, 10/21/07

I just tried it this weekend and i loved it with a little touch of cream added to it when you shake it then add the Grand Marnier to the end so it's white on top with a little hint of red at the bottom so deliciuos....

Ok, folks, it is supposed to be topped off with Champagne which is what makes it a french martini. You'll love it. You don't need an expensive champagne, your just topping it off, make sure it is last though for the bubbly on top.

I prefer this martini made with Ciroc Vodka and rub the lemon peel around the rim of your martini glass before poring it in. For a real treat top this drink off with a splash of really good champagne like Veuve then you have a FRENCH KISS.
Champagne?

I've had this with champagne in addition to the ingredients listed and it was lovely - I always go easy on the pineapple juice to avoid making the drink too sweet.
1-2-3

posted by JoAnn @ 06:42PM, 12/31/07

We fooled around with the recipe and found it was a 1-2-3 recipe with 1 ounce of Chambord, 2 ounces of vodka and 3 ounces of pineapple juice. Add a dash of champagne and you are all set to go!
