I think it's better with honey.

I just returned from Ireland where I enjoyed this drink in many different pubs around the country. One wet afternoon after a hike, my wife suggested I try it with honey. It was good but I prefered the sugar. Also, stick the cloves into the lemon slice so you don't have to worry about them as you drink.
