The inspiration for this was the dirty martini. With the Manhattan being considered by some (myself included) as the inverse of the Martini, making a "dirty" version of the Manhattan seemed like a good idea.

2 oz whiskey
1 oz sweet vermouth
1 tsp maraschino syrup
maraschino cherries

Mix the whiskey, vermouth, and syrup in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously, strain and pour into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
