Inventor: Pax Rasmussen of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Came up with this drink while trying to find a good use for that strange cranberry vodka, which seems to only mix with cran-raspberry juice. Well, the touch of vermouth takes the edge off the cranberry, and chilled ice cold it makes a very tasty martini type drink.
We liked it so much that we decided we had to name it: I thought the drink had a sort of dirty-urine color to it, and what with cranberry juice the home-remedy for UTIs, I suggested calling it a UTI. My friends were against it, but I kept calling it that and it finally stuck.
Now people new to the group give VERY strange looks when I ask another friend of mine what he'd like to drink, and he asks me for a UTI!
